Intermittent wiper failure
I am having this potentially deadly problem with my wipers working and not working in a most random fashion. I have checked the threads and I am wondering if i should change the GEM, and the switch etc. or.... has someone else come across this problem and solved it?
Please please please help

Re: Intermittent wiper failure
What year is your Taurus?
Can you describe what you mean by "...working and not working in a most random fashion?" Is this only when set on delay, or only when on low or high speed? Have you checked some of the threads on the multi-function switch and wiper stalk? Sounds like this could be just dirty contacts in the wiper stalk, but it's hard to tell based on the description. -Rod |

Re: Intermittent wiper failure
The wiper problems are seemingly random. One day they work just fine, the next they only work at one specific speed - no matter what the speed setting is. Other times they do not work at all. They do "park" properly, meaning they do not stop anywhere along the window. Some days I could have them set on fast and they go normal, then I try to set them on long delay and still they go the same speed.
Oh yes it is a '97 Taurus GL, 3.0L Vulcan |

Re: Intermittent wiper failure
I would suspect the multifunction switch or wiper/turn signal stalk before the GEM module, unless you are having goofy problems with your door locks and other electronics.
