Question 1970 Gto ?

I just bought a 1970 GTO and was looking for some info. Could anyone tell me how many 1970 GTO's were produced at the Arlington,TX plant? Or how to find out. I know the last 5 digits on the VIN number are the unit numbers and mine is 08614. Does that mean it was the 8614th 1970 GTO to be built in Arlington,TX? If so, out of how many total? If anyone can help with these questions, I would greatly appriciate it. Later

You might try Pontiac Historical Services (www.phs-online.com) for documentation and statistics on your car. Also, check into the GTOAA (GTO Assn of America). They are a club dedicated to all GTOs and have a wealth of information like what you are seeking.

Good luck and congrats on the '70, I had a Starlight Black '70 that I wish I would have held on to. At least I still have my '69 and '66.

Question 1970 GTO Engine ?

I just bought this 1970 GTO and am waiting for my PHS Doc. to come. I was wondering if anyone could help me with a question though. The car accroding to the V.I.N. # the car was built in the 2nd week of September. Now the engine casting date is H279= August 27,1969 & Heads #48 are A279(BOTH)= January 27,1969. The casting number on the motor is 9799914 and has a YS Code. Is their anyway that this can be the right Motor & Heads? The transmission is 70 - PY 4645= Auto. 3 speed Turbo 400. I have pics if it helps. Just let me know if you need them. Later

Re: 1970 Gto ?

No, the "48s" are '69 castings. The date code on the block is probably correct (pretty close, anyway). YS is a 350 HP 400 CID, automatic trans. It should have "13" heads on it, if it's a '70 GTO engine. The 48s are collectable for someone restoring a '69.

Re: 1970 Gto ?

If the engine has been rebuilt you should use higher graded unleaded,if not rebuilt engine add a lead substitute each time you fill up.Do not use ethonal. Best of luck to ya.
