ABS light

My ABS light went on about 2 weeks ago for about 20 minutes, then shut off. It did the same thing last week as well. Its off now, and its been off for a week.

I have an 03 explorer. My abs light went on last summer and I had to get new abs brakes (covered by warranty), but the difference is that the light was on all the time, and i could tell that the abs brakes werent working. this time its different, they feel fine and the light is now off.

Should i be worried? i was thinking that dirt/snow/salt could have buzzed the sensor or something. is that possible? the light is off now and has been for a week.

Re: ABS light

It's hard to speculate with something as intricate as ABS system. If the light is off now and they work fine I wouldn't worry about it. Next time the light comes on drive by your dealer and get them to read the code it's giving and they should be able to pin point the issue. If you get the codes pulled now they might still stored in memory, but the longer you wait the less of a chance they are still in there.

My opinion on ABS is that the BS stands for......well you get the point. You would think that if they could engineer brakes that can detect which wheel spins faster than the other to release the brake pressure.....yata, yata, yata. They should be able to detect if your in a swerve (which is really the only time you benifit from ABS) and only operate then. Only my personal thoughts though.

Sorry I got a little side tracked there for a bit.

Re: ABS light

I have a 1997 Sport and my light came on and all it turned out to be was a loose connector.
