control arm bushings
Do replacement control arm bushings need to be installed with some kind of press, or is it something the shade-tree mechanic can do?
any other tips or advice ? |

Re: control arm bushings
Control arm bushings are designed with an interference fit into the control arm. Removing and installing the bushings requires the use of a press.

Re: control arm bushings
the press you need is not much more than a C-clamp and you can "borrow" it for free from Autozone. complete instructions with diagrams and special tool numbers can be found here: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d8018c69e.jsp

Re: control arm bushings
I did mine with a regular C-clamp and a set of 3/4 drive sockets used to put pressure where the pressure needed to be. The tool ericn1300 listed would be a whole lot easier.
Also, I didn't back off the adjustment bolt on the torsion bar. I put a jack under the lower control arm, popped the bottom ball joint out, then let the jack/control arm down until pressure from the torsion bar was released. James |

Re: control arm bushings
You can use a two jaw puller to release the pressure on the torsion bars also.
