280z drifting?
Ok so yeah ive pretty much decided on getting a Datsun 280, there arent any Zs down here so i guess im gonna have to go with a ZX. It's all good though, im trying to get a turbo if i can. So my question is: Can 280s drift well? I dont think im going to do a v8 swap because i dont want a weakened front end and i want driveability, so ill probably just swap a 300z engine? So yeah, I wanna know if it drifts well and just everyones impression of the car. If not the 280 i saw a nice 240sx for sale. Eh, i can only buy in spring though, its just not coming fast enough.

I would recommend a 240Z over a 280 if you want to drift, the 280 was really softened up, and is much heavier.
The 240SX is a great choice, and would make a much better daily driver than either the 240Z or 280ZX. If you want an engine swap, consider the Ford 5.0 HO, they're cheap, light and very compact...

Z good... ZX bad... The ZX's, execpt the Z32 Fairlady, were just such heavy cars with squishy suspensions and twisty chassis. They were boulevard cruisers with Wangan aspirations, there wasn't much agility left in the chassis after they extended the wheelbase for the 280ZX.
However, if you're willing to work at learning technique, and I expect you'll do chassis modifications, so the 280ZX isn't a bad starting point. AND WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DITCH AN L18???? Seriously, the Nissan straight six is torque-a-plenty and durable as hell. You'd stand a better chance of getting struck by lightning than suffering problems with an L18.

haha sorry, i guess you read the post wrong or maybe i was drunk when i typed it or something, but i was saying that i DONT wanna do a v8 swap. I wanna keep it all nissan.

My interest in an engine swap would be power and driveability. The Nissan L series, while reliable and capable of good specific output, are still a 60s era engine, and when extracting 200+hp, you have to run expensive gas, lose bottom end torque, and have a rougher idle than you might like.
OTOH, a Ford 5.0 weighs less than an L24 or L26, at just a bit over 400lbs, and makes 250hp on low octane gas with no problem. It is an OBD engine, has the same ECU used on Ford F1 engines, and Ford rally cars of the era. The 5.0 is really a gem of an engine, and would be my first choice for any engine swap involving a V8. BTW, I thought the L18 was the inline 4 in the 510... I know the L series are all the same, just with added cylinders and displacement...
