89 S10 4.3 neutral safety switch problem?
2wd 4.3l S10 Blazer Z vin, 230200m, does not crank. all the lights work and the battery is strong but when turning the key nothing happens. (just dash lights come on). there is a click under the hood when turning the key, i think the click is from the relay that goes to the fuel pump.
Checked connections and postive battery post was corroded but i cleaned that with no effect. Neutral Safety Switch on the top of steering column: When moving the shifter (it's an automatic) through the gears shouldn't the Neutral Safety Switch move with it also? it only moves a short distance when shifting from Park downward to Low gears. then it stops and won't move back up when shifted. Does it need to be replaced? thansk for any input Last edited by sepp99; 02-15-2007 at 09:34 AM. |

Re: 89 S10 4.3 neutral safety switch problem?
it's the starter, i tapped it with a hammer and it cranked over.
the Neutral Safety Switch (or BackUp Switch) ratchets only once when you set the position of the switch by moving the gear shifter from Neutral to Park when you install it. the NSS easily pops off with a screwdriver, but the earlier model S10s has a 2bolt setup. |
