my 2.8 Sucks

86 Jimmy 251000km 1.8 TBI - bought used a months ago
Trouble getting over 110km in aheadwind without dopping into passing gear. No high-end power. Pretty much done everything but compression check - which is next. I suspect this baby is worn out.

Debating options...
1. full rebuild of 2.8 with a mild cam
2. get hold of a used 3.4 from a camaro and drop it in
3. buy a crate 3.4 or a 2.8
4. buy a junker jimmy with a decent 4.3 and retofit (lots of rusted bodies) Suspect fun with computer.
5. sell it to some old bugger who doesn't drive over 80km

I'm opting for option #2.

What's a NORMAL 2.8 capable of anyways (ie: 125 hp)? Everyone I talk to tells me how weak they are.

Re: my 2.8 Sucks

Very weak even when new. 3.4 is a direct replacement.

Re: my 2.8 Sucks

I've heard a lot of good about the 3.4 >150hp and decent mileage.
I'm not intending to drag race
It's my everyday runner, so I want decent gas mileage and enough power to pass a semi on the highway, maybe go uphill without downshifting. lol

Mine's sick, but it starts in -25celsius, and runs. Damn thing. This sick rollerskate passes by all those new cars broken down on the road. lol
