windstar leaking coolant

Hi all i have a 2000 windstar with 85000 milles on it that is leaking coolant from that metal tube that runs under the plastic intake manifold.I took the van to a Ford dealer because i have a extended warranty I told them where the leak was coming from but at the time it wasn't leaking so they said that they would do a pressure test and that that would tell them exactly Whit the problem was .Well they did the test and told me that they couldntfind any leaks but that they could see that the hose that goes into the heater for the inside of the van looked like it had been leaking and it would cost me 340 dlls to fix it and that it wasn't covered by the warranty. I said that i didn't see any leaks coming from that hose and that i was going to bring the van back when it was leaking so couple of days latter started to leak again so i went back to the shop they look at it again and said that it was the hose they tolme about before for sure so fine i said fix it they fixed the hose Adan i took the van then four days later is leaking again from the same place i took it back to ford and told them it is leaking again and i show them the leak now they say that they wont be able to look at it until tomorrow. What do you think i should do?

Re: windstar leaking coolant

Ask to speak with the service MANAGER (not a service writer) and explain the whole situation to him/her. Since they were apparently in error in not heeding your initial advice, you should be entitled to a partial refund for the unnecessary repairs. Since you DID get new parts (hoses, clamps, coolant, and whatever else) as part of the unneeded repair, you should expect that you will be paying for those. The labor you bought should be the refund you get.

What exactly does the extended warranty cover? If the cooling system is not covered, there might be other important items that aren't covered. If it is a Ford warranty, you might be stuck with a dealership. If the warranty is written by an outside insurer, you should be able to get repairs anywhere. Find another ASE certified shop in your area and compare prices and service.

Re: windstar leaking coolant

Greetings,

I have a 1996 Ford Windstar, 3.8, v6, 176,000...It's been leaking coolant from the secondary heating hose that is located behind the driver's seat about half way down the chassis. I was told that it needs to be replaced. Any idea of what it is exactly called so I can ask the Ford dealer the cost. The parts guy said he needed to know which hose. All I can see is a little black hose maybe 1/2 inch in diameter coming from underneath the chassis. It only sticks out maybe 1/2 inch. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

Hi
based on my '96 manual my best guess is "auxiliary heater water hose". There should be two, a supply and return. If I interpret the diagram properly, the forward hose is the supply. I also think based on what is here, that the other end of the hose is clamped to the aux heater core in the rear interior sidewall so you may need to get in there too to disconnect the top side of the hose. Your parts guy may just need to pull up a diagram of the aux a/c and heater for '96 and figure out what is what.
