Bleeding Power Steering System
2002 Grand AM GT 6cyl
Does anyone know how to bleed the system without using the "special tools"? I've lifted up the front of the car and turned the wheels lock to lock and still can't get all the air out. I had to get a new steering rack put in because of this problem. Can anyone help? Thanks |

Re: Bleeding Power Steering System
Thank you but I've tried all of that. After a new(remanufactured) pump and new rack and pinion, I'm still getting foam on start up.

Re: Bleeding Power Steering System
I am back, some models require turning wheels lock to lock 20 times and some 40, engine off wheels up. hopefully this will help you. I would do 30 times just to be sure.

Re: Bleeding Power Steering System
So did you try it for 2 hrs ?
![]() When ever you replace components, as it says in that procedure, It can be very difficult to bleed the system. Another thing to try is syphon out all the fluid from the resivoir while warm. Fill it up and start all over. Keeping the front end off the ground will help the air move to the top. But if it is cold as hell the fluid becomes thicker thier for not allowing all of the air to move up..... On my SE when I replaced the PS hoses it took all day off and on. Just keep at it. Good Luck!
