Power Steering Fluid

Hi, my first posting. I own a 1999 330, 5spd, 95k. The power steering started squeaking last week. Stupidly, I didnt check until today and found the power steering container was near empty. I may have a leak. Fortunately, I haven't driven it much. I checked the Owners Manual and it doesnt say what type of ATF I should use for the power steering. Grrrr! Does anybody know? Also, the OM says it needs to be done by the dealer because it involves some trickiness when topping off the power steering fluid container. Is this just a bunch of bull to get me to a dealership?
And one more thing, I live in Miami, can anyone recommend a good BMW mechanic down here? Thanks
