Lightbulb Win Twenty-five million U.S. dollars !

If no one has heard, the Virgin chief Richard Branson announcemend the Virgin Earth Challenge prize.

The prize will give $25 million to the individual or organisation that develops a way to remove one billion tons of carbon from the atmosphere annually.

Here's an article with more about this endeavor.
http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/node/1034

I personaly think its a great way to get some people motivated about Global warming.

I have three Ideas that I have been working on/researching for over 2yrs.
Two of which are very achievable,
the third wont happen because we are stuck in our ways of how we live our lives from day to day.

Oh and Dont even ask what my ideas are

I just need Richard Branson's telli #

any thoughts?

anyone up for the challenge ?

^^ LOL! No kidding.

One billions tons seems to be a pretty tall order. We'll see if it happens.

That might help. But they would need to grow up to 50ft in a year. Thats not probly going to happen.

I'm sure if I searched the Virgin web site or the one about the Global award, I could find a contact or two. I've heard He is a pretty cool guy for being a richie rich

Wont see any Spamm coming from Me

A billions tons isnt realy that much.
A way to put a big dent in it is to install Cat Covrt on Every diesel engine out on the road, and that includes rail cars(trians).
Diesels are the most pollutant of any transport vehicles.
Jet airliners would probley be second, with factories/power plants in third place.

One other big step would be to stop the Glaciers from melting any more.

And thiers little things that everyone can do.
Switching out all your incandesent light bulbs to the floresant ones will save you $100 a year or more!

If everyone used them, they could probly shut down a few coal/petro power plants and thier a real big contributor to green house gases.

So do your part !

^^ I agree with you 100% in taking steps to improve the environment, I just don't believe in the "global warming". But definately, everyone should do their part and help out.

Re: Win Twenty-five million U.S. dollars !

Global warming is a fact!

The Co2 that builds up in our atmosphere , becomes a magnifier of the UV and other rays that shine through it.
Our atmosphere realy becomes a convection oven, w/ Radiant UV's melting the coolers of this planet. And eventually, US !

I've seen satelite photos take over the last 40-50 yrs and the North pole is definantly melting away diluiting our seas thus stoping the coverour that operates the ocean. Then, it all becomes a stagnant/polluted mess of toxic goo.

And this all could happen, like at any time.
I plan on being around, and I hope when my kids grow up they can still go outside without worrying about thier flesh melting off from sun exposure. SPF 100XK

remember, any day ....

Re: Win Twenty-five million U.S. dollars !

I doubt the ability to determine what is man made and what is the earth changing. The environment and climate is anything but static.

But I also don't doubt man is having an effect and therefore I'm going to install a big air filter on the top of all of my neighbors cars. However, I also bought a set of test pipes and notched the boost up another few psi. I figure I'm about even.

There is too much bullshit and politics surrounding the issue for anyone who's not a PhD carrying weather nerd to have a meaningful insight on the matter.

study both sides of the issue before you begin to believe that the we are solely responsible for (very) slight spike in global temps.

Some scientists have said that because of global warming, we are slightly overdue for another ice age. Also, ever heard of global dimming? The amount of light reaching the earth's surface. Caused by particle pollution from cars. YAY CARS!

Re: Win Twenty-five million U.S. dollars !

I think Mr. Branson is talking about something that will actually remove the carbon, not just reduce output. Some sort of scrubber. The science is probably out there, and I bet it'll be expensive.

It's probably cheaper to stop chopping down the tropical rainforest and make sure that all factories and plants are less polluting.

Re: Win Twenty-five million U.S. dollars !

Well 80-90% of the Co2 is man made!

Nothing else puts off co2 but the ocean, and its content of CO2 is from man and his petro addiction. Its not just cars and it has been going on over 100 years.

With forests burning every year, because some jackass throws his cigarette on the ground or purpossly starts them , damn pyro's

And people have this misconception that Global warming means it'll get hotter, but in actuallity the end result of global warming is Global cooling(another Ice age)

Which we are way over due for.

I think it should be manditory that everyone watch Al Gore's "inconveniant truth".
He has some nice flow charts and lays it all out so you can see the measured differances(measure by scientists not the govrmnt) and he also has a realy big screen.

Politics pollute everything and everyone with misinformation to keep us "at ease".

Ya know, it would be nice if it wasnt true, be we are looking at an ice age probley in the next 50-100yrs unless drastic measures are taken.

Who needs air any way

yes, the charts are very impressive. You know, it could be the fact that he was involved with poiltics that people would dismiss his plight. The fact is though, I can completely identify with needing to serve some kind of purpose in life. I really think that Al there is genuinely passionate about the issue, and I do think he's done a good job in compiling the information needed to make us understand that policy has to change.
who knows whats going to happen without a lot of education, but we have to trust those with nothing to gain. His motives seem inoccent enough, so I believe him. Unless he's just against big oil... shit I dont know.
