Transfer files from Desktop to Laptop

I want to transfer a few things from my desktop to my laptop.
Is there anyway other than setting up a network to transfer files? Like a USB cable or something?

I just really don't want to have to lug the computer up stairs and then hassle with setting up a network.

You could use a jump drive. There is a cable that you can get, but Im not sure what it is exactly. A router works too.

I could think of the following options:
1. USB cable.
2. USB flash drive.
3. Setting up a wireless network.
4. Firewire cable if firewire port is present and you need high speed transfer

You can't just hook up a USB or firewire cable to both computers and watch it go. Just dosn't work that way.

You could always burn a cd or dvd, but I recommend you just get a nice sized flash drive and use that. You never know when it will come in handy, I use mine almost daily now and never thought I would.

Thanks guys. Looks like a USB drive is the best way to go. Although a network is the cheaper route.

I started burning cd's and I realized it would take too long, and I don't have a dvd burner on my desktop.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Transfer files from Desktop to Laptop

You can get an adapter so you can plug your laptop drive into your PC for about $20 - cheap and fast.

Re: Transfer files from Desktop to Laptop

Well I was cleaning the floor today so I put my desktop on my bed. When I put my cpu down it ripped the threads straight out of the controller of the video card. I knew I needed a new card anyway, but now it's just a definite.
