dumb question here, what's this light for? is it purely to draw ur attention to look at something reading an extreme #, or is it a guage might be outta calibration?

Re: check gauges

Re: check gauges
Pretty much just to grab your attention. Older cars that used to have nothing but gauges would often have failures/problems when there were no computers to monitor them. It was the dirver's resonsibilty. Soo, when the driver didn't pay attention or didn't know what the gauge reading meant (like my wife and the gas gauge
) here comes problems. Then came the addition of engine lmgmt lights, henced "iidiot" lights for those that who failed to utilize the gagues of old. Thus the check gauges light on you new model car pretty much lights up to say "hey, one of these is trying to tell you something" Hope that helps. |

Re: check gauges
yeah, stupid things.. i put too much trust in my *****in gauges. i thought my car was running fine, then i look at coolant temp sensor cuz a hose blew.. and it was CORRODED to the max. change it, and my temperature just shoots up. (i bled the system and everything..) all my check gauges come on.. and everything. god. -_- hate these new sensor crap.
prolly killed lots of life from my engine.. and its already at 116K miles

Re: check gauges
If the gauge is pegged it's usually safe to say the sending unit wire is grounded. No temp reading usually points to a open wire.

Re: check gauges
well, the thing was...it was actually alwaqys running really hot cuz i had < then the right amount of coolant in my engine... when i changed the thermo, and ran it ~the same amount the engine temp shot up...
and then the hose i blew then plugged blew again.. and my 'check gauges' came on.. it didnt come on the first time i blew the hose..
