Comp G Calipers

OK, so I'm about to pull the trigger and purchase an 04 GTP Comp G. Very good condition but the red calipers are gunked up with dust from the disc brakes. This is more noticable on the front calipers than the rear. Had an inspection done including brakes and mechanic said good meat on the brake pads and the rotors look original and well within spec for a vehicle with 68,000. Brake pads may have been replaced.

Anybody know a good way to clean the red calipers without messing up the red paint? What is the paint and can it be re-done or touched up?

Re: Comp G Calipers

I have an '04 GTP CompG as well. To clean the tires, wheels and calipers, I use a DILUTED mixture of simple green. I have the coated wheels so I make sure to use soft cleaning rags and some elbow grease and that is all it takes (do not use any Scotch brite). The calipers in front are a little more difficult to get clean then the ones in back due to the larger rotor size. I use a small soft brush to start with and then a sponge followed by the rags to "polish". Be vareful not to fet the simple green on your paint, as it will take off the wax too (I use Mothers GOld or Mequiers). If it's been a while since they have been detailed, a toothbrush on the calipers after letting them soak for a while gets even the worst of the caked dust off. I also use the basic car soap (Meguiers) to wash the wheels and tires after the simple green and rinse them well.

As far as the paint is concerned, you can get the "G2 Caplier Paint" kit at a lot of places for about $35 bucks. The color is not a perfect match, but unless your in a concours, I don't think anyone will notice.

Re: Comp G Calipers

Excellent, thanks! I've used Simple Green for years to clean the aluminium wheels on my 4Runner and didn't think of that for the Comp G. I have the check in my hands and I pick it up tomorrow afternoon, I can't wait!!!
