90 Caravan Speedo DOA

Hi All,

I have a 90 Caravan with a 3.0 engine and a 3 spd trans. It appears to have a mechanical speedometer. The speedometer has NO movement at all, and the odometer does not turn either. I was just wondering if anyone knew what my chances are that it's the cable, the speedometer itself, or the pinion gear in the trans. I can get a cable for $12 at Autozone, I can even get an instrument cluster from EBay for $25 delivered. But the pinion gear and adapter, I'm not to sure of. I'm considering junking the whole works. Any suggestions?

Thumbs up Re: 90 Caravan Speedo DOA

Ok, well, turns out I had a problem with the cable not being properly seated into the pinion spindle. Apparently the moron who switched out the trans failed to get the cable back together properly. You are supposed to remove the pinion gear assembly before you try to remove the right side drive axle. Since the trans seal was leaking out the right side anyway, and I had to remove the axle to replace the seal. So I removed the pinion assembly to check the cable. After removing the entire cable and playing with it, I determined that it was difficult to get the cable properly seated back into the pinion assembly.
