1992 Jeep Cherokee sometimes has no power to starter
Cleaned NSS, but jeep sometimes starts and other times no crank in starter. I know about the NSS problems. I use to be able to start in neutral but now it dos'nt seem to matter. It cranks when it want's to. I took jumper cables and from the positive post on battery was able to start jeep by jumping to siolinoid on starter with key turned to on position. Hope that makes sense? Could I have bad Battery cables? They are abit corroded. I can start it 20 times in a row then turn the key and nothing. Not even a clicking sound from starter. Any suggestions?

Re: 1992 Jeep Cherokee sometimes has no power to starter
I forgot to mention that also when I jumped the battery straight to the solenoid sometimes it would not cranck over. It just made alot of sparks but no starter movement. Could that indicate that the solenoid may be going out?

Take the starter oout and test it if you are not sure. Other wise use a Digital Volt meter.

Re: 1992 Jeep Cherokee sometimes has no power to starter
Took the starter out and had it checked. Works fine. Reinstalled starter after I cleaned the wire connections to starter. Changed the battery cable that was corroded and fired right up. I cut apart old battery cable and corrosion was pretty deep in. Could it be as simple as a bad battery cable causing jeep to not power solenoid and sometimes send power? It's started right up 5 times now but still alittle worried about trusting it. I bought a new ignition switch too but have not put it in yet. Should I or take it back to store? Thanks for your input AlohaBra !!

Well good, how much was the ignition switch? I would keep it if it was not too much, cause you never know if you will need it. Especially, if you go off-road into the back country.
