Re: switch to live axles and lift.

Whether or not a Solid Axle Swap (SAS) is worth it depends a lot on the type of and how much offroading you do, your skill level (mechanical, metal working, etc.), and tool availability (cutting, grinding, welding).

Vendors like All pro, Marlin, Sky, and Trail-Gear sell conversion kits that make the process easier.

Re: switch to live axles and lift.

And you will have to convert to cross-over steering also. The same vendors have the kits for that.

Re: switch to live axles and lift.

alright thanx i dont do that much off roading because i dont wanna tear my truck up but i want something that looks good. and its free so thats a plus and the lift he had was high enough to put 44s on it but i would just go like 39 or something. i was just wondering if it was even logical for my everyday driver. and i have access to anything that i need for the metal working i am a fairly decent welder and my uncle is a master welder and does collision repair. so i have the tools and the ability.

Re: switch to live axles and lift.

Even with a free axle and doing the work yourself, figure $1000 minimum just for the conversion/swap.

39's or 44's, you gotta be kidding.

And on a Daily Driver ?

The tallest tire that's practical for a DD is 34-35" (yeah, people do it with bigger tires, but again, it's not practical). There isn't a gear ratio available for a Toy axle that would work with anything bigger than 37-38's, and to use them you'd need aftermarket axle shafts to avoid breaking them (and that's still no garuantee you won't). Rigs with 37" and bigger tires are usually trailer queens because they're not streetable.

Re: switch to live axles and lift.

You could do a 2-3" ball joint spacer lift on the front, new springs or AAL or shackles on the rear. Even a 1-2" body lift.
