Re: blow off valve

No.

The turbo is what produces that whine - the very high RPM of the turbine/compressor is specifically what produces the whine. Remember that those things can top 90,000 RPM.

Why would you want that sound without the power that goes with it? That's a lot like some of the ricers that you see that have air-powered shifters - cars that my Caprice will blow out of the water, yet they still have those air shifters - they sound COOL! not

Re: blow off valve

No, the blow off valve doesn't make the "whine" but the psst sound when the gas pedal is released.

Anyway, no it won't

Re: blow off valve

Well sorry but you can't do it. That sound is the sound of pressure being released off of the turbine.

Re: blow off valve

Is that the same thing as a "wastegate?"

I have seen what will make that sound listed in some of the "import tuner" catalogs and sites. A turbine blade-type "spinner" mounted in one of those fart can exhaust tips. That's the epitome of Radically Improved Car Equipment. It was probably within the last year or two I encountered those.

Re: blow off valve

well, yes and no. The blowoff valve is part of the wastegate but actually isn't needed. The idea of it to release pressure is but like on my SRT4 from the factory bled off inside the downpipe and you didn't hear it. Once I added stage 1 I got a block off plate which causes it now to make that pssst sound when I shift.

That "turbine" thing you see that you clip to your tailpipe doesn't make that sound either but instead makes a swirl sound sort of like what a turbo sounds like when you are building pressure. They are simular to those little hand whistles that have that little propeller inside.

Re: blow off valve

The blow off valve is not part of the wastegate. Some cars like the old GT-4's never came with a blow off valve. The blow off valve realeses air preaserue when you lift off the throttle so the resulting shock wave of the air hitting the throttle plate dosent bounch back to the turbo and atop the blades from spinning. The wastegate allows air to bypass the hot side turbine to limit the amount of boost the turbo produces. The only way to cange the way a wasegate sounds is to get a divorced gate and dump it to atmosphere.
