Re: 95 Ranger Wheel Size

Just make sure that your engine has enough "oomph" to handle the increased load from your oversized tire plus re-calibrating you speedometer to account for the larger tire circumference.

Re: 95 Ranger Wheel Size

I put 31's on my 97 4.0 4X4. My milage went below 11 and lost some power. I am getting normal sized tires back on it. Too bad I wasted $400. Don't do it!

Re: 95 Ranger Wheel Size

I guess there's no such thing as "free lunch" eh Sally88. Reminds me of the time when I had this small Sears 3.5 HP outboard motor which came with a two-bladed propeller. I decided to install a three-bladed propeller, you know, get a little bit more speed out of the motor. Duh, Soon as I opened up the throttle, the engine went on its knees. So much for that.

Re: 95 Ranger Wheel Size

it would also explain the loss of mpg she complained about in earlier threads

Re: 95 Ranger Wheel Size

Yes, the tire salesman told me the mpg would go down from 16 to around 15mpg. He still says it is something else. I am getting 11 in town, which is crappy. My friend has a 1990 3.0 4 Runner with 31's and it runs fine, 18mpg. My Ranger is a 4.0 and can't handle it. E powers, since you have seen all my posts, you probably understand why I think Rangers are junk and I am sorry I ever bought one.

Re: 95 Ranger Wheel Size

I have a '99 Ranger 4.0L Extra Cab with a camper shell and I get 18-19 in town. Of course I have the std 15" wheels. Get a Toyota or a Nissan with the same size engine and install a 31" wheel and let us know what kind of mileage you get.

If you read my post, my friend has a 1990 Toyota 4 Runner with 3.0 and 31's and it runs fine and gets 18mpg. The Ranger needs to offer a V8, because the 4.0 V6 is junk.
