Intermittent Turn Signal

Hello All,

I have a problem where if I turn on the signal left or right it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't work. If I hold the lever in the right place it will work. I think that it might be the switch, but I still have to check the relays and that. Any other comments or ideas out there?

Thanks
Dion

Re: Intermittent Turn Signal

I have problems too...I don't think that is a relay because otherwise will not work at all. I think it's from the switcher and it's expensive to change....myself I didn't fix it and whenever I'm trying to signal I have to keep the switcher in a specific position to work. Keep trying to see if it's a weak contact but any way, the electric parts of Windstar sucks !

Re: Intermittent Turn Signal

Mine just started doing the same thing on right turns, you can hold it in the position just before it clicks and latches (lane change position)

It's a bad multifunction switch, $57 and change from rockauto.com for my 96. Does not look that hard to change in the shop manual, pull a few covers and the switch is right there.

Will let you know when the switch gets here and I get the chance to do it

Re: Intermittent Turn Signal

Changed the switch today, not to bad 45 min start to finish.

Disconnect the Battery.
Drop the 2 lower dash covers (1 plastic, 1 steel) total of 5 -8mm bolts. Remove the tilt lever, it just screws into the column.
Remove 3 phillips screws and 1 plastic pin from the lower column cover and remove the cover.
Remove the lock cylinder, with the key in the run position push the pin located on the bottom of the column right under the cylinder in and pull the cylinder out.
Lift the top column cover up (I could not get it completly off due to the shift lever but it was clear of where I had to work so I left it)
Remove 2 torx screws (do not know what size) that retain the switch.
Unplug the 2 connectors and remove the switch.
Reverse the above to install the new switch.

Switch was $57 and change plus shipping from rockauto.com, AC brand made in USA.

Do not do this in a cold vehicle or you run the risk of cracking the plastic covers, A warm garage is recomended to keep the plastic soft.

Re: Intermittent Turn Signal

Thanks...your details are going to help me...unfortunately I have to wait for the summer time...no garage available. Happy that you've solved the problem.
