'97 K-1500 Fuel Pump Problems

I have a '97 K-1500 with the 5.7 motor and yesterday it just would not start. First time for this. Great truck. It will turn over but will not run. I noticed that I did not hear the fuel pump building pressure when I turned the key on. I checked some diagnostic charts and it said something about a "fuel pump test feed point" but I could find anything that would feed 12 volts to the fuel pump. I did test connector #C111 (just below the relay center) and the orange lead has 12 volst to it and the grey lead has 12 volts for 2 seconds after the key is turned on just like the procedure says it should so I figured that the fule pump bit the dust. Well, after installing a new AC/Delco fuel pump, it still does not start (fuel pump does not run).

There is something else about the fuel pump/oil pressure switch in this whole thing.

Anybody have any ideas what could be the problem?

It does not run, so getting it somewhere that can read the codes is pretty hard. I do not have a scanner, so I can't tell what the "service eninge" light is trying to tell me.

Re: '97 K-1500 Fuel Pump Problems

When mine went out this last fall I stopped for fuel and when I went to start it, it wouldn't go. So I had someone turn the engine over while I beat on the fuel tank and the pump kicked on. I had to start it that way for a few days until I had time to replace it. Before I replaced it though I tapped a test light into the connector near the sending unit to make sure I had juice at the pump when the ignition was on. Some GMs have the test port but I don't think these do. I just pulled the relay and jumpered the correct terminals for another test. I aslo don't believe these have the oil pressure circiut in the fuel pump circiut like some older GMs. Anyway, make sure you have juice at the pump and you should always test any electrical device before putting it all back together.
