A couple strange noises.

Hi.
I now have 2 new noises on my 99 Blazer.
One is a strange "buzzy" niose. It seems to happen more when the car is in drive. It reminds me of a noise one of my old cars had, which came from the speedometer cable. I don't drive the car that often, my wife drives it everyday, and she says she hears it once in a while when it's cold, and it goes away for a few days. I opened the hood last night, and found that the MAF wasn't connected where it should be connected at the air cleaner box, which must have happened when the guy changed the intake gaskets. I reconnected it, but didn't take a ride after, it was 11:00, and 20 degrees, and i was too tired to deal with it.
The other noise happens when I cut the wheels fast. I get this "rubbing, groaning", almost like a vibrating noise. Again, she seems to think it happens more when it's cold. I can't figure out where it's coming from, but it seems like I can feel it in the steering wheel.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Re: A couple strange noises.

need more info on the 1st problem - does it doing while driving or at stand still only - without any other info a guess would be torque converter .

the 2nd one sounds like the power steering pump could be moisture freezing up in it , an air leak , slipping belt ( usually you hear a squealing noise ) look for leaks around the steering lines / check the level cold and hot and look for foaming .

Re: A couple strange noises.

Thats the key to this - guy changed the intake.
That vibrating is the throttle cable holddown plastic connector on the rear of the drivers side always breaks so the use a nylon tie and resecure it - now contacts the PCV hose and thats the noise - been there.
As for the other the PS pump was at least loosened so see if all nuts/ bolts fron it to the block are tight and the pulley aligned casue he may have screwed the alignmnet nut setting when he did the intake (Look at belt on pulleys and all lined up?) and also see if fluid full.

Finally, 99-01 do have secondary air injection so see if the PCV didn't fix if the check valves (1 each side) are making the noise - they rust out internally every 3 years or so - see Tech/How To article on system
