heres a lesson

just wanted to share this to all of you who own a 4.3l vin w ( cpi injection)

i recently had to replace my cpi unit and seeing how they cost 700 bucks in canada , i found one on the net for 400 shipped to my door from the u.s. - well the first one leaked from the injector body as well as the regulator - returned it and the second one cuased a hell of a misfire - i couldn't believ that 2 units in a row could be bad so after lossing some hair over a couple weeks thinking another problem had cropped up i hung my head and went to gm for the 700 dollar part installed it and what do ya know it works .

i think the problem lies in the fact that these other 2 units were rebuilds even though it didnt state they were on the website - i stumbled upon a web link that associated the supplier of first 2 units with a known rebuilder in canada - after all i never intended to buy a rebuilt unit because others have had problems with them and besides that gm insists that these things are not rebuildable and as far as i know no-one sells individual parts for these .other than the regulator.

the origonal seller did refund the total cost including shipping .

Re: heres a lesson

MT has for his signature "Remember Dealer OEM parts only hurt one time.
Cheap after market stuff will bite you in the rear many times. MT said that.
So If you are going to do it. Do it right the first time. Or you will have to undo it the next time."

Re: heres a lesson

I know these are a pain. Some say just get a GM part, others say they have had success with a rebuilt unit.
I've owned '93 and '95 CPI equipped trucks, and have rebuilt both of them myself. I have had problems a couple of times unitil I got it right, but all in all with a little patience, they can be successfully rebuilt. I have a couple of times made a trip to the local wrekers yard, and scoop up the CPI units and save them. The guy charges me 10 bucks for the whole unit. At one point, I had about 14 spider units. I just can't see spending that much money, they know they have you in a tight spot, since you can't really get these at any parts store.
Either way, at least its fixed.
