Re: stock stereo system?

It's very easy to do. Do you have the better radio or just the regular one? I know there was 2 different heads that came in the car.

If you want an aftermarket head unit, I got 2 harnesses for sale if you want them. Both $20. One's a reverse harness, like to replace the stock one, and the regular hookup for aftermarket. They're $20 a piece. I'll sell them for $10 a piece.

Re: stock stereo system?

i have the stock stereo head unit that came from factory, i have all the wires ran for the system because i just sold that deck i put in... so these wireing harnesses you have are for installing a sub and amp to your stock factory cd/radio player?

Re: stock stereo system?

You'll need a speaker wire/RCA adapter (can't remember the name), and then you should be able to run a "system" off of the stock setup, as long as you get the power, ground, and remote wires hooked up....if that makes any sense.

No, it's only for an aftermarket radio. Sorry.

Re: stock stereo system?

If you get an amp that runs off of line level inputs, you can just tap into the rear speaker wires. Thats what my older brother has done on just about all his cars, works great for him. If you dont get one with line level inputs (also called speakers level inputs I think) you can get a conversion thing that takes line level inputs and turns them into RCA.

That way sucks. One of my guys did that to his SUV and sound qualuty was terrible. Couldn't even get that loud. Not that great.

Re: stock stereo system?

Well its obviously not going to be as good as running RCA's out the back of a aftermarket deck, but he wants to hook up subs to a stock deck and thats the only way I know of. Not being loud isnt much the wiring problem, that would be from under powering the sub, not having the crossover set right, or not setting the preamp on the deck right.

Re: stock stereo system?

With that converter, the sound quality is decreased a good amount, but there's really no other way to run off of a stock deck. I run the converter in my Monte because I couldn't find a 1.5 din stereo that I liked and I didn't want to have that big ass adapter plate sticking my radio out like 3 feet from the dash. My sub doesn't sound too bad, but it's definitely not the same quality as it was in the Eclipse. And the converter does have an effect on loudness of the sub. All it does is pull "bass lines" from the stereo wiring and converts it to an RCA, so the bass setting isn't able to be tweaked like with running an aftermarket unit. My roomie had his subs in a Grand Am hooked up to a aftermarket head unit and they absolutley fucking pounded and then he put them in his Trailblazer on his stock stero with the line converter and they sound decent, but it's nowhere near the loudness as in his Grand Am

Re: stock stereo system?

What do you mean how much are you looking at spending? Considering you have the speaker(s), amp, box, and wiring, then all you need is a ~$30 part and you'll be good to go.

Re: stock stereo system?

damn man you just need to save up first. then you wouldnt have to sell stuff. 'dont spend more than you make' but as for advice you could go with the line level input like the others were saying, for now. then later when you have money get another HU. bc in the end you won't be happy unless its done properly.

Re: stock stereo system?

My 2 cents: do it once, do it right. If you plan on getting a new deck, just wait. If you dont, get the converter (less than $30 at Walmart ) and be happy with it.
