200 SX Wont Start

Was running fine, went into t he store, came out and won't start. Battery is fine, everything lights up when you turn the key, but when you try to start you get nothing. Sound like a starter here? 130K miles. Timing belt maybe?

Could be starter among other things. Just check to make sure your spark plug wires and spark plugs are snug and working fine. Does is turn over? If so it won't be the timing belt.

Re: 200 SX Wont Start

give the starter a little tap with a hammer. if it cranks after that, your starter is the problem.

no, won't turn over at all, when you turn the key forward to start you get nothing except a little 'click' that comes from the steering column

Re: 200 SX Wont Start

Well if you can physically see that the timing belt hasn't snapped, then it won't be that. Like MetalHead said, give the starter a few whacks with the handle of a hammer and try to crank it again. It could be multiple things, but ofcourse it helps to narrow it down.

Re: 200 SX Wont Start

sounds like a starter, but it could be an ignition switch, neutral safety switch, or wiring, or fuse.

That'd definitely help to make sure its puttin out voltage. Also check for any fuses gone bad. I felt like an ass after buying an Optima battery and new alternator one time when my car was acting up just to find out a $8 fuse went bad.

Re: 200 SX Wont Start

dont even bench test it. just have someone check that theres voltage going to it. the big terminal should have battery voltage all the time, and the small one should be 0, and when you turn the key, should start getting battery voltage. if thats all normal, replace the starter.
