Autozone Question

Someone said that you can get your car scanned and find out the problems. Is this true and can someone explain to me how this works and how much it generally costs?

Re: Autozone Question

If your car is a 96+ it is most likely OBDII. If you go to an AutoZone, Advance Auto or O'Rileys where there isn't a garage that does work and they check alternators and/or replace batteries, they'll generally be helpful about using a generic scanner to give you a general code if you have a CEL light showing. Hell, I've even had them replace my windshield wipers because at first it seemed like upside down and backwards Hebrew to me. Those guys are generally pretty nice and like working on cars. They probably won't charge you anything. But they won't fix your problem and the code may not even be very specific. GL

Re: Autozone Question

Yep, they will scan for free. Just take any advice they give you with a grain of salt. I've found for every 1 person at autozone who knows what they are talking about, there are 5 that have zero imagination and very little automotive knowledge.

My suggestion is always to write down the code they retrieve (it will be like 'P0453', and it will have a description such as 'cylinder 2 misfire'). Write all that down, come back on here and do some searching and you can generally get some good ideas on where to start.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
