Ok, so I just put in a new alternator a few weeks ago. Car was running fine. Went to start it yesterady and the fuse wire burned. Replaced the fuse wire and also put new battery in. Cars starts great but the amp light is on. I tested battery while car was running and battery was pushing 20 volts. amp light still on. HELP???

Re: Amp light on
Hey Sean -- good to see ya checking in from time to time
Oldcoach -- Yikes man !!! Get that alternator away from your car immediately.. You're not going to like the mess when the battery blows up.

Re: Amp light on
HI guys I figured I would check in and see what was going on in the forum.
Yes I agree with Steve and Sean that alt. sounds like it's over charging. That wire that burned is a fuseable link. It is suposed to burn if the voltage gets too high. Make sure not to just splice a plain piece of wire back in there. I'm really starting to hate the poor quality of aftermarket / remanufactured parts these days. Good luck on geting your charging system working correctly again. Mike |
