Starter or loose wire?

2000 monte carlo

For the last couple days, when I crank my car up, it hesitates for a second, like the battery is low. Then it will crank up.

This morning when I tried to crank it up, it hesitated and went quiet. I turned the key again, and nothing happened. no, slow drawn out turn of the starter, not even a click.

I thought it might be my terminals being corroded. They were pretty ugly. I cleaned them as well as I could, using cokes. Still nothing. I tried jumping off with another car, and tested the battery, which was good. no luck.

Any suggestions? Is it my starter?

Re: Starter or loose wire?

You need to remove the cables and clean them with a wire brush. The old coke trick only gets the surface corrosion off. Clean both ends of each battery cable, at the battery and where they terminate. Also, what year is your car? There are other issues depending on the year and engine which could cause what you describe.
