Front end squeaking on 03GT
Hi fellas! Have an 03 GT and the front suspension is making a terrible squeaking sound. It seems to be coming from the center part of the engine area. (maybe rack&pionion area). It does it going slow over, lets say like over a bumpy parking lot or something. Also very noticable when engine area has warmed up.. I was hoping maybe just spray the area with WD-40 or something but dont know where it could be.. I tried rocking the front up and down but dont hear anything, has to be moving.. Have 31,000 miles. |

Re: Front end squeaking on 03GT
Does the sqeaking happen when you turn the steering wheel,
or when your body moves up and down from bumps? If the steering wheel makes the sound its the rubber boot on the firewall that protects the inside form getting wet, a seal of sorts. If it occurs on bumpy roads then I'd think it was a spring sqeaking in the strut tower. Thier is small rubber bumpers that the springs ride on. They sell a lube just for these things, I would NOT use WD or anything else, as this can and will errode the rubber away and then they'll need replaced prematurely. Hope that helps

Re: Front end squeaking on 03GT
The steering wheel is fine. I can turn it back and fourth and dont hear anything..I did drive over a speed bump and made the car go up and down by putting on the brakes really quick and doesnt make the sound either.. Just only when driving on broken pavement is when its most noticable. Could I lube the struts myself with something?

Re: Front end squeaking on 03GT
I would use the proper lube for them.
Either on the strut shaft or the rubber pads that they set against. You dont have snow or ice up under the front suspension do you ? As this does happed too and it'll sqeak sometimes when the snow/ice rubs against its self.

Re: Front end squeaking on 03GT
Yes any parts store should carry rubber bushing lube.

Re: Front end squeaking on 03GT
I have creaking noises too, and it drives me nuts. But mine is a bit different than yours. Mine makes noise (like wheel hub or something..) during the first drive of the day... like when it is cold. As it warms up the noise diminishes. And it will make that noise on perfectly flat ground (no bump needed for the noise). Almost sounds like some rotation noises... something going 'round & 'round..
I guess you can tell I'm not very mechanically inclined, lol.. but I try !!! I'm planning to bring the car in for a checkup soon because I still have the extended warranty. I wish I knew what the noise was first though; I don't want the mechanic to say.."gee, I don't hear anything" lol... But they've been great with me so far; no troubles getting warranty repairs. Cripes.. I paid enough for the damn two-year extended warranty !!!!! |

Re: Front end squeaking on 03GT
Well I have pin pointed my noise to the drivers side strut.. I tried bouncing it a little since its pretty firm and can hear the squeaking sound. I see I have 3 small bolts that hold the strut on and then one big bolt in the middle...How do I lube the strut with gear lube? Do I just removed the middle bolt while the car is on level ground? Xerofinity are you reading?
