New to the 3000gt
okay so im a turbo eclipse guy and im actaully going to be selling my car soon in hopes of getting a late 3000gt vr4. i was wondering if you guys had any points of wisdom you could share... like things to look for when buying a 3k?
and also what would you guys recommend as my first mods? my idea was: boost gauge boost controller turbo back exhaust or single intercooler set up for starters. but like i said i dont know a whole lot about these cars yet so im just trying to get some facts before i buy one. one last question is the all wheel steering as great as it seems? |

Re: New to the 3000gt
Please check out our FAQ it will answer all of your questions and then some.
As far as the AWS, I honestly don't even notice it anymore. I remember when I first got it, it was noticeable, but nothing over the top. The rear wheels just turn a degree or 2 with or against you, depending on the speed you are going. It helps with high speed lane changes, but other than that... Good luck with tracking down a vr4. Late models are harder to come by and generally not cheap to buy or insure, so it may take time. Autotrader and 3si are some good places to start. Welcome to AF.

Re: New to the 3000gt
About the AWS, i've only noticed it during high speed lane changes, it almost feels like the car slides into the next lane.
Good luck getting the VR4!

one of the beauty's of online forums is the give and take, back and forth exchange that is lost with simple referral to previous exchange. I think it the reason forums have lost some of their luster. I vote for less referrals and more straight answers...even if you answered it before....it helps a forum to be fun and involved. Thats my 2 cents on that subject having watched several forums simply die due to constant mentioned referrals to all newcomers to the point they don't bother coming back. As far as finding a VR4, I had my best luck on cars.com. I watched these cars for years but only just now got mine...20385 miles in mint condition for 17,000 with tax and trailering. |

We got a tightknit group of people here...there is plenty of back and forth exchange on other topics. So I don't think the forum is in jeopardy of dying either.

faq is very well needed, so are feeded answers. boost gauge, a/f ratio and a turbo timer are 3 good things to start off with. reason1: when you buy a boost controller, you need to know the psi you are reaching and our stock b/c are crap reason2: you may end up running to rich or to lean and need to know were you stand on the sitiuation reason3: isnt so important, but if you dont have the patience to keep your car running for 10 seconds or so before you get out of the car...then a turbo timer will preserve your turbo's life. then you can start with your bpu's...and be sure to get a super afc...or any type of fuel controller if your gonna wanna run anything past 14.5 psi see, this is all in the faq

Make sure you know what maintanance has or has not been done and update it before modding.

Re: New to the 3000gt
congrats on the car and welcome to AF. have you checked autotrader? also, kbb.com has some cars for sale as well.
+1 for what zeiss said. keep in mind the service interval is 60kmi or 5 years...so if it hasnt had one it would be a good idea. |

Re: New to the 3000gt
3000gts are NOT dsms. And as said above, our ECUs are hardwired, so you cannot interact with them. You can use piggybacks, you can go standalone, and you can datalog (more so in 1st gens than 2nd).
