Squealing heater fan

When I turn the heat on my 02 passat the fan starts squealing loudly at the glove box area. This happens when its cold and on occasion when the engine in warm. I've noticed that when I turn the wheels right it starts up again after it has stopped. Since there is only one belt for the engine (so the mechanics told me) and there is no noise on the outside of the car, what is this all about?

the blower motor for the car is behind the glovebox. If the pollen filter was replaced recently mabye some leaves got in there.

I've got a 2002 Passat Wagon and the AC/Heater fan has conked out on me for all but the fastest fan setting.

Is there a trick to removing the glove compartment to get at the fan to take a look? I checked the fuse and it's ok, so I wonder if there's a pair of fans in there and the low speed one has died?

I believe there are 3 things that affect the operation of the blower motor.
1 The motor itself, which is working at the high speed.
2 The blower resistor, which has a resistor for each speed. If any one of those resistors is faulty, you will lose a speed on the fan.
3 The climate control fan switch on the center console.

My guess is that the switch is faulty if the blower still works on high. It is also a moving part and subject to wear. It can be pulled out of the console and tested with a meter.

My guess on the squealing blower fan is that it may need lubrication.

If the blower only works on hight the blower motor resistor is bad.

How does one get to the Blower fan to lube it - and with what oil - Sewing Machine oil? -

How difficult is it to remove the motor - assuming the pollen filter is Okay? My '04 makes a light noise which is more predominate when making a left turn. I don't suspect that to be a flapper/mixture door in the housing, because it makes the noise at any setting/mix. No fault codes.
