Dynoing with SPOOL

Hi,
I was wondering if you can help clarify the TRE SPOOL diff for me. My main question is, If I was to get the TRE SPOOL, am I required to get the Viscous Coupling Eliminator for dynoing purposes(FWD dyno)? Also, when I read other forums about dyning an AWD in FWD mode, they said to drop the transfer case and driveline. Now does that mean, literally taking out the complete unit? Please help me clarify this a little so I can tune my 92' GSX. Any reply is appreciated,
Pao

Re: Dynoing with SPOOL

I dont know for 100% sure, but you should ge the VCE. Also, I would rethink the spool if I were you. Driving that on the street is going to suck ass, that is a track car only mod IMO.

Re: Dynoing with SPOOL

I dont' know if I would go with the spool, but the only safe way to dyno an awd on a fwd dyno is if you have a welded differential or a VCE. If so, drop the t-case and let 'er rip.

Re: Dynoing with SPOOL

Spools are basically the same as a welded diff, all the wheels turn at the same rate, no slip at all. Get a 4 spider center diff if you gotta upgrade, I think TRE sells them for $400. Expensive, but worth it if its going to be driven on the street.

Financial wise....welded diff > spool....I don't really know if it's worth the $400 when a welded diff does the same and costs alot less.

Re: Dynoing with SPOOL

IMO I think that welding the center diff seems like a ghetto rig way of doing things. So if you want those benefits I would spend the extra money for the spool.

Re: Dynoing with SPOOL

Running the car without the driveshaft/ transfer case in is a big no-no. I would definately suggest just trying to find an AWD dyno.

Re: Dynoing with SPOOL

Garrett, the 4 spider holds more power, but still allows you to let each wheel spin at different speeds.... no more squeeling tires around corners and digging ruts in parkin lots on hot days.

Who told you that? I've read a ton of articles on Tuners, and 99% of the wisemen say it's just fine, I trust those guys. As long as you don't just take off the driveshaft and run it like that (stock setup), it's fine.

That's the beauty of AWD, the domestic guys hear that they know not to even mess with you.

Re: Dynoing with SPOOL

First of all, I want to thank all of you guys for the replies.
So, what you guys are saying is that I do need the VCE even with the SPOOL Diff in order to dyno on a FWD dyno? And also, just for reassurance, it is okay to drive, or in my case tow, the car to the shop without the transfercase and driveshaft assembly?
