Died in the middle of the road.

I own a 2003 2.2l cavalier coupe. I was driving home from work after working overtime last night, and i noticed that when i shifted and pressed the gas, it would speed up, but not as much, like it was hesitating. Then, about 2 seconds later, the dash lights came on, first the battery, then the oil light, and died. As I was waiting for a towtruck, I watched at the 4 way hazard lights went from normal to slow and weak, to gone. I am guessing its something with the distributor or alternator. I checked the oil and what fluids i could in the middle of a 4 lane road in the freezing cold, they look fine. It was at this point, after closing the hood, i realized i had locked my keys in the car. Towed it to a garage, but not a good night. Any ideas and approx prices to fix this?

def. sounds like the alternator to me. what happened when u tried to restart it? did it turn over like it wanted to start or was it just dead? cuz then it might be the battery. other than that i dunno.....was it warm or still cold when it died?

When i tried to start it again, I could hear the starter trying. I had only driven the car for about 5 minutes before this happend. But it was like 5 degrees outside and the car had been sitting all day while i was at work. 7:30 am to about 8 pm

and its the fuel pump 600 some dollars

ouch...i have the same car and that got me kinda worried..... i would just try to find a fuel pump for a lot cheaper somewhere else and install it myself. they arent that hard to do...good luck and lemme know what u decide on doing, and hopefuly, it wont happen to me.

Well, Unfortuantly, I already got it fixed, the 600 included labor, the part was like 450. I guess the part came from the dealer, cause either they don't refurb or use old fuel pumps because of the electronics, or they couldn't get one, and i needed the car fixed asap, it is my daily driver and i have no other choice

an `03 and it was likely just out of warranty right . Back in the day if vehicle was just out of warranty some dealers would look after their clients by replacing defective part and writing it off with warranty from another vehicle. Ya I know it`s not legit but I bet they got repeat car sales from it . But I guess those days are gone. Cheaper aftermarket parts are not always the way to go either, sometimes OEM is better. just my
