well there are lots of differnences between the turbo and the carrera first of all the turbo haves a 3.6litre twin turbo engine and the carrera haves a 3.4 normally aspirated engine!
the turbo haves over 400hp and the carrera haves less than 350!
the turbo its wayy faster and its more pretty.
those are little diferences!
well about the swap thing i know about a guy that turned a normally aspirated engine into a turbocharged engine first he started with a blower than he putted the turbo and its very fast!
if you are thinking on swaping an engine you should know that its a difficult job and its never going to be perfect!
so i will tell you something if you want a turbo engine dont swap it put a turbo on the engine and it will be in some point of view easier.

yea he´s right

the 996 turbo has 420 hp 305 topspeed
the 996 carrera 320 or more after the facelift 285+ top speed
and the turbo has 4 wheel drive and the carrera (hm now i should know the english word... hmmmm) "backdrive" (hope you know what i mean)

there are some more differences but with my bad english i cannot translate them .. sorry
