Ok, first off, im 16 years old, and im hopefully gettn my car in the summer. I am really new to this whole scene, with the engine mods and everything. I was wondering if maybe a 240SX would be a good car to start with. Also, i am lookin for any help that you guys can offer with engines and other stuff to mod cars. thank you for you help.

Re: New

yea its a great car. I learned how to drive in a 240 and it became my first car. As far as engines and modding, just do A LOT of research.

Re: New

it matter on what your opinion means as in better. The S14 may look nicer if you like, but overall they share many common parts, and the motors are the same (besides OBDII on 96' and up, and the S14's came with different degree cams). It will be harder to find a cheap S14 in ok condition, but you might be able to get a nice S13 thats in your price range.

Re: New

I suggest phase2motortrend.com and 240sxmotoring.com, those are my two favorite sites for 240sx parts. The "installs" section of 240sx.org has some really good budget stuff, too.

Re: New

NO!

fuck all thats been said.

heres what you need to do.
get a beater
learn how to change oil, brake job, water pump, timing belt, tune up, axles, and a head gasket. then buy a cheap 240 and learn how to drive it well. then youll be set.

the #1 thing i hate is kids who think they can just jump into this like its any other fad. modifying cars is all about auto mechanics. learn how to work on your car. dont just buy rims and neons and have a shop put in a motor so you can crash your car or blow it up because you never changed your oil.

stupidass F+F movies. they make it sound like modifying cars is like playing video games. your going to end up spending thousands and thousands of dollars more than you should getting a shop to do it, then your not going to know even what your driving. if you dont want to modify it yourself, go buy something that looks cool but sucks, like a 3000gt SL.

Re: New

who said he's jumping into it? He said he wanted help and needed to find places to help him learn and study up. Thats what were doing. Doesnt sound like he's jumping into it. The shit is expensive and i doubt a 16 year old can really afford to throw the cash at it. If he can and has a shop do it.....oh well, thats what shops are for!!! JUN, MINES, SIGNAL, HKS, AMS etc etc etc wouldnt be shit if they weren't shops themselves. Granted though, im more of your style, i like to do the stuff myself because its fun and i like the car, so naturally i want to learn about it. Thats the fun part of it all and you can say i built this.

I "jumped" into the scene, well before 240's were even cool. I learned everything i know on a 240. Everything in my mods list was put on by me with the help of a friend who is alot more car savvy than me and has been around the block before. The stuff isnt that hard really. Just dirty and a little time consuming. And why buy a beater and put all that time money and effort into it for nothing? Id rather buy the car i like and want to modify and put all the time money and effort into it and know its a solid car.

and 240's are beaters.........and great cars to learn on because they break alot. Hell i did everything on your list + some(except water pump) just because the shit went bad lol.

Re: New

age doesnt matter. i bought mine when i was 15, and i have thrown about 3500-4000 + the cost of the car into my starion. Ive been through more in the build process on mine than most will modding there car in the time they own it, and i turned 17 like 3 weeks ago.

Theres no better way to learn than just doing it and figuring it out. If you figure out the hard way then your just that much smarter for your next adventure. Money never is a problem, you just have to be resourceful and patient. Ask lots of questions, make friends at shops and be friendly. Most mechanics are willing to help out if you have questions and need a little help.

Re: New

ok well thats fine if hes not jumping into it. but still, learn how to fix your own car. too many nice cars are dying because of idiots who dont know shit, get a shop to swap in an SR, then blow it up because of something stupid like double gasketing an oil filter.

Re: New

Ok, i haven't been here for a couple of days, but anyway, im am here to learn about cars, to me this isn't a fad at all. Also, i have no intention what so ever about putting neon on my car, same goes with a 5000 dollar audio system, they cost too much for me, and personally i thnk that a car is a car, not a lazer show or a giant boombox on wheels. Right now, I am looking at a '92 S40SX, they don't cost too much where i live, and i've heard from other people that they're good starting cars. Oh, and i agree w/ sideway with what he said about the Fast and the Furious movies, good movies, but they make car tuning way too easy. I am realistic about it, i kno its not somthing that im gonna get over night.
