1989 Ford Ranger 4 Wheel Drive Axle

I have a 1989 Ford Ranger 4 x 4 with V6 engine. There is a shaft in the front axle that must be the 4 wheel drive shaft. It is broken in the middle and passenger side shaft hangs down. There was a seperation from a joint, I imagine. How can this be fixed? What connected both shafts (what part is needed?)? Can this be fixed by myself by taking the passenger side front wheel off and replacing shaft? What kinds of tools are need? I have no knowldge of thsi subject. Thanks.

i wouldnt know the answer with out knowing what is broke, your resources, and your skill. Not to be mean, but if you have to ask then you probably need someone else to do it.
