bottom end rebuild

ok ive got all my parts just gotta reassemble the mess. i bought new bearings and i have a z6 girdle to go with my a6 motor. to install the bearings do i just lube them up, put them in and pop the crank back in? i have my chiltons manual and i still dont understand. just wondering if anyone else has put a bottom end together. also i cant remember which pistons/rods go in which cylinder, i kno the numbers are on the rods i just dont know the cylinder numbers. internals freak me out cuz i dont want to fuck it all up..

Re: bottom end rebuild

wow, u shoulda kept much closer tabs on which piston and rod went to which cylinder. the numbers on the rods have nothing to to with which cylinder, they arent numbered 1234 if u didn't notice. the numbers refer to bore size of the crank end of the rod. do NOT lube the back side of the bearings. make sure the crank journals on the block and girdle are dry and the bearings are dry, then put the bearings in place and lube the crank itself. second, did u have the z6 girdle rebored to match the a6 block or r u hoping it's a miracle match?

Re: bottom end rebuild

ah... well i'd suggest a machine shop or an engine re-build shop to have it align-bored. they should be able to. if not then idunno, u should be able to explain wut u'r trying to accomplish to them and they will understand wut u'r asking them to do. if they don't then u might want to take it to another shop
