Online source for '84 Caprice wagon spindles?

The RF outer wheel bearing bit the dust between last night and this morning's ride to work. I drove it last night around 9pm, pulled out of a parking spot and heard a loud "crunch" from the RF corner of the car, I figured it was ice or something the car was sitting on. I did a 70mph ride home and it felt and sounded ok. I left for work at 6 am today, got a 1/2 mile down the road and the thing blew apart at 65 mph. I got off the highway, limped home with it making a hideous noise all the way.

I jacked it up, popped the hubcap and half the bearing was in the hubcap. The rollers were still full of grease, stuck to the inside of the hubcap. I pulled it apart and the outer race was welded to the spindle. After a session with an air grinder and air chisel, it came off. The spindle wasn't too bad, I was able to emery cloth it back to where it would take a used bearing. I had a set with a bad rotor lying around.

I did a trip to the local parts house, got a rotor and other goodies for a total of $62. The used bearings & other hardware cleaned up nicely. I was able to put it back together, but would still like to replace the spindle. Does anyone know if someone makes new ones? Or does someone from a parts car they would like to sell. I'm going to check locally on Friday 2/9.

Thanks, Bob

You could get some new ones for an ImpSS. Of course they will probably be a dropped version. But that's good!!

Stock replacements try www.carparts.com, rockauto.com etc...

If I was keeping the car for a long time, I'd get fancy with the spindles. I went on car-parts.com and found a bunch in local boneyards. They go for between $35-50 and just about anything fits it from 1979-1990 Caddys, Buicks, etc.

Make sure you get WAGON spindles. They are different from most sedans. This is to accomodate the larger front rotors on the wagons. 9C1s, 9C6s and 91-96 b-bodys will interchange directly.

used ones from a wrecking (auto recycle) if they match and you can see the type of damage that was on the donor car you should be good to go. i had the same thing happen on a truck i was useing 6 or 7 years back. fun fun fun. 463
