Need Ferrari specialists - GTO & 308, same engine ?
Hello all,
I am not a fan of Ferrari (for a rallye fan, normal thing I guess), but I really would please to enter the contest. What I plan is to enter of course with a rally car, a 308 GTB Gr.4, but for more fun than building a Racing43 big model, I plan to build it with engine, starting from Revell 308 GTB kit. My question is: this Revell kit has no engine but the GTO (which is for me like a 308 evo for homologation in GR. B) has an engine; can I use it ? do this 2 cars use te same engine block...? And another thing I am wondering, do you think it's possible to use chassis and engine of the GTO in the 308 GTB kit ? (assembly pins matching, etc...) I already know I will have to replace the wheels, which can be find at Racing43 or u=in any Stratos kit and probably get a decal sheet, except if I choose to build a street Gr.4 car, because available versions aren't my favorites ones... For the rest and my questions any answers, informations or advices will be very appreciated. thanks by advance. Phil |

The 288 GTO Engine Is Mounted Longitudinally(Front-Rear)
While The 308GTB Is Transverse Mounted(Side To Side) And The Wheelbase Is Longer On The GTO Left:288 GTO Below 308 GTS

Both engines are V8s, but that's about all they have in common.
The 308 engine is similar to the engine in the 328, and the Hasegawa kit has a nicely done engine. The 288 GTO engine is very similar to the engine in the F40.

Hasegawa's Ferrari 328 would be a better candidate; it's full detail and has a transverse V8 and the same basic chassis as the 308 as it's a later model offshoot of the 308. You'll still have a lot of work to do, but that's a far better start than a GTO.

Ok thank you all. I think that finding a 328 from Hasegawa wouldn't be easy, but if I want to go on with this project it's a far better solution...
Thank you again for your answers. Phil |

The 328 was just reissued and HLJ has them in stock. Don't delay, it's spot production, but they're out there now.

I think 288 GTO has a DOHC V8 TT. 308 has SOHC V8.
The Old revall Magnum PI 308GTS kit has full engine. I built one before. Not bad for a 70's kit. My 288GTO and 308: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ht=Ferrari+308 |

Re: Need Ferrari specialists - GTO & 308, same engine ?
Hello,
thanks all for your answers. I am very interested in the magnum 308 kit, as I really loved this serie when I was younger (and I still love it ).I am trying to win one on Ebay, Maybe I will use the engine in another 308, but I carefully look at the model and the revell kit is really poor... I don't really want to make a lot of work for a random result... To enter the ferrary contest, I fianlly chose a more original (carzy!) idea, a fantasy car... not less random result (as I still don't know if I would be able to build what I intend to) than a 308 GR.4 but a better idea with an inexpected model for the contest I think... So... to be continued ! Phil |
