New headunit problems

Alright well I've got a 2000 GT with Premium Sound and today I got an aftermarket head unit. I'm pretty sure I wired everything up correctly because it turns on and works fine, but when I get on the accelerator, I hear a whining sound that sounds kind of like its coming from the radio/speakers (I cant really distinguish which) that increases in pitch and loudness the faster I go. If I turn the radio off, the sound disappears. Even if I'm just sitting there and the radio is turned on, if I rev the engine, the whining sound gets higher in volume. Did I mess something up? I wired all the stuff in the back of the radio up right, but I left the factory amp in place, could that cause it? I also didn't tape up the extra factory connectors, could they be causing it? Im so confused because I love the new head unit but that sound is driving me insane.

it sounds like its getting distorted from frequency bleeding, i would first try ti rap up all the wires then if that doesnt work take out that amp.

Well I emailed Metra about it. One of their guys replied and told me that I would either have to manually bypass the amp (which he said is difficult) or I would have to buy a 70-5510 with 2 ground loop isolators. Im going to have to wait until this weekend before I have time to mess with the radio again, but if taping everything up doesn't work, how do I bypass the amp? I've got only like 10 bucks left that I can spare for now. I found the part that he recommended and it was 40 bucks by it's self.

i used a scoshe wiring harness to get rid of the problem

i had the same problem once, go to a stero shop and see about noise filters, you might be able to ground the head unit to the chassis, even the amp.

first of all did you hardwire the aftermarket? or did you get a converter? secondly you should be able to bypass the factory amplifier with a run of the mill walmart brand scoshe bypass which will probably cost more than 10 dollars but its your only other alternative. also im not familiar with the original stereo in that model but it may have a built in adjustor commonly found in the chevy cavalier z24 premium sound package that compensates for engine noise and automatically raises the volume for noise pollution, if this is the case it may also be bleeding while doing so if you hardwired it and didn't get a good connection. email me if you need more help [email protected] good luck
