Question Running real rough

Hi everyone. I have a 95 Continental that is running very rough. I was driving it down the road when it suddenly started to surge and stutter and I thought " Oh crap, so this is what happens when the famous AX4N flopped out " Tranny has surged since I bought it usually at low speeds, but this felt different. Ten minutes later, as I approached a traffic light, it started to run as if I pulled a spark plug wire of one of the plugs, then the service light came on for the first time. I don't have a code reader, but obviously have to deal with this real soon. I don't think it's a wire or plug. Could be an oxygen sensor or my worst fear, a stuck valve which I'm not sure how to deal with short of an engine tear down and a costly repair. Again it has a real rough idle and maintains a clear miss in the engine. Exhaust has a real funny sound too, kinda like " FUFUFUFUFUFUF " like a stuck valve. Does anyone have any experience with a problem like this on a Continental or any other engine?
HELP !!

Re: Running real rough

Have you tried the folks at the >> other << Conti board? Their normally up-to-speed on these types of problems.

Re: Running real rough

Im not sure with the 95 but i have a 99 and i had a VERY simular prob about a month ago and it turned out to be the coil pack on my number 3 cylinder.....thats easy enough to check......with the car running pull up on all your plugs and listen for the spark flying around your cylinder walls.....if no sound...no spark....replace the coil pack on the cylinder you dont hear a spark on.and this is asuming you have the same set up as the 99 conti....Hope this helps.

P.S did you miss me tc?....lol.....been really busy.

Re: Running real rough

I had this problem on my 97 Conti. It turned out to be the #2 plug wire. I had all plugs/wires replaced, and the problem was solved. You'll just have to grin and bear the "Diognostic Charge" at a shop to find out for sure, or go to AutoZone and have it checked for free if you trust them. However, if you're service light is blinking, don't drive the car. You'll damage the catalytic convertor (like me).
