Engine photos

Just wondering if anyone had photos of their engines around 2000. I was noticing the car hasn't been getting up to temp in this cold weather. I let it warm up 15 minutes, drove 40 miles to work and you could still feel a little cool air coming from the floor. I just had a flush and fill done 3 weeks ago. I popped the hood and looked over at the reservoir and there was a line just laying there not connected to anything. It is the line right below the cap on the reservoir tank. The other two lines closer to the front of the car are hooked up OK. Just wondering if this line should be connected anywhere. I never noticed it before. Not sure why the car won't heat up like it used to. It always ran around 200 degrees. And man, my power steering is whining and moaning from the cold weather.

Re: Engine photos

That line is the reservoir overflow or bleedoff when cooling system pressure exceeds 15 psi so it is just supposed to dangle downwards. Try bleeding the cooling system because you may have air pockets from the flush. Most common cause of low heat is the thermostat which is a PITA to replace if engine is the 3400.

Re: Engine photos

ITs not to bad to change the V6, that 2.4 is the big pita.

If you dont have any air in your system you might put a piece of card board over part of the rad to allow it to stay warmer.
I have to do this on both my GA's because I have a 180-185deg thermostat. Especially now, since its like 5 deg here(-5windchill) .

Just remember to remove the cardboard when it warms up outside.

Re: Engine photos

Mine is a 2000 SE 3.4 V6.

How do you bleed the system? Maybe I should just get the t-stat changed...

Re: Engine photos

Pretty easy to bleed the cooling syst.
Run the car to get it good and warmed up.
Try and park the car so the pass front is up or at least level.
Turn on the heater full blast.
On the passside of the engine, above the water pump,
you will see a brass fitting on the reciculator tube.
Open the smaller bolt partially sna slowly.
The blot is hollow with two bleed holes so as its opened,
the air goes to the highest point. Was 1 good idea gm had.

heres a pic, purple arrow.

Re: Engine photos

Turns out the coolant was leaking, the thermostat was going south and the intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced....OUCH!
