How to reset a Service Engine Light

Hello,
I have a GP 2002 GT, and I am getting a service engine light. I got the code scanned from AutoZone and it came out to be P0128.
Can someone suggest what should be done and how much does it take to fix this issue?

Also, is there a way to reset the service engine soon light without first fixing the problem?

Thank you

Re: How to reset a Service Engine Light

DTC P0128 means your thermostat is not regulating properly. You can try disconnecting the battery negative cable for a few hours to reset the SES light but no guarantee it will work. Best way to reset is with an odb-ii scanner.

Re: How to reset a Service Engine Light

There are some cheap code readers available for about $40 from Harbor Freight and other vendors that will both read codes and reset them. When you have a code and replace a related part, it doesn't mean that you have solved the problem. It is nice to have a reader as a basic tool.

Local parts stores will read codes, but most will not reset them for you.

true...they are legally not ALLOWED to reset an emissions DTC without first verifying that the proper repairs have been made to whatever system caused the DTC in the first place...
