Re: Remote Start help for 91 silverado
Have a professional do it.. That is the best advice I can tell you.
I had one put into my 2000 Z71. I am glad I had someone who knew what they were doing. Now mind you, I am one to do things myself, but when it comes to wiring, it is better to have someone who has some experience with it.

Just make sure that whoever does it solders all the wiring connections or you'll have grief later. Most installers dont because it takes extra time.

It's not recomended for a DIY'r. Anyone can install them. It's when you have problems where a pro is needed.

Re: Remote Start help for 91 silverado
And only get one from a GM dealer and have them install it. That way if problems do arise at some point in time you won't have one guy pinnng the blame on the next guy at an aftermarket install shop. That gets costly and nothing gets fixed in the end.

Re: Remote Start help for 91 silverado
Well, not sure if I'd actually get one from a GM dealer that alone can be costly. Case in point: I sold a local dealer a very nice RS with keyless entry on a '07 Silverado today for $300. They charged the customer $499.
Since the truck is so old in your case I wouldn't bother with the dealership although you could call and ask if they'd recomend anyone.

I got a Viper from Bustbuy for X-mas and had them install it.. and so far I am pretty happy with it.

Re: Remote Start help for 91 silverado
I stopped selling the Viper units. I had started getting pretty bad performance out of them. It sucked because I've been a DEI dealer for many years but couldn't handle all the comebacks. The regular remotes would fail due to cold solder joints that hold the battery in the remotes. The 2way systems are a joke. No range and they like to eat up batteries like fat chicks eating french fries after a Jenny Craig meeting.

Re: Remote Start help for 91 silverado
i install python and valet systems. which are all DEI and i have very good luck with them. the 2 way units do eat batterys very fast seems like about once a month. you can get python systems at any circuit city.

Well thanks for all the help but me and a friend put it in ourselves. I didnt think it was that complicated. We had no trouble except for the starter wire which was labeled wrong in the instructions.
