95 Talon TSI Lean issues

I recently am having lean issues with my talon. i went out one night, drove it hard came home and the next morning started it, and at idle it ran fine but put any boost to it and it falls flat on its face.

I just changed the turbo to a Big 16g and put a header on, went out same prob, but this time the header was orange, hense why i think its lean. I took it apart tonight thinking the timming belt had jumped but nothing. bang on.

Spark plugs are white, ET rises, and runs with a little miss. Im thinking crank sensor or FPR. FPGadge is at 40 on the filter. stock injecors, intercooled, downpipe 3 in exhaust boost con.

Any help narrowing it down would be great

almost any boost, if you lightly put your foot into it well go, not great but it well move, but as soon as you put load and the turbo starts to spool it sounds like coil unpluged. I know this because one of the wires came off my dis 2 and had kind of the same effect.

But everything is getting hot, why i think its lean.

Well if you run any boosted car somewhat hard the manifold usually glows orange, it's just the way it is. How does it idle/run now with the other turbo when not boosting?

Fuel control? Fuel mods at all? Boost pressure?

I dont think you are having a lean problem. Unless your knock sensor is bad, if you leaned out bad enough to be having problems, the knock sensor would have gone crazy and pulled timing like a biatch. I almost think this is your problem. What made you think a Big 16g would help a leaning out problem anyway? I would just stop running the car, get a logger/SAFC combo or DSMlink and see whats crackin. New injectors, a bigger pump, and a higher flowing FPR coupled with some decent logging and fuel control should help you out a bit.

So the knock sensor if it is bad pulls the timming (retards) that still does not tell me why there is no fuel. The other thing is that what ever is going on is not pulling a code. If the knock sensor is shot it would pull a code.

I was thinking FPR but when they go bad it peaks the fuel pressure. It says 40 now and i was told that it should be higher.

I also noticed that my o2 is not reading as fast as it normally does. even at idle it seems to stay towards the lean side and slowly move back and forth.

Im going to do a compression test tonight put a new pump on tomorrow. Any ideas on what i should go with? Walbro 255?

I have a knock sensor on its way, i would hook it up to my logger but my laptop went all screwy last week.

If you guys have any more sugestions on what more i can check or replace it would help me out alot.

Your fuel pressure is about right, it's like 2lbs low, but that's not really a big deal I wouldn't think. Go with the Walbro 255, that way you shouldn't ever have to upgrade again.

What boost pressure are you running? Remember man, that Big 16g is flowing more air so its going to require more fuel and chances are you are running more boost than your fuel system can keep up with. A shitty fuel pump, a bad FPR (or wrong pressure, your lower pressure is probably helping the problem), and dirt injectors can all lead to less fuel in the A/F mixture so then you knock more and then you pull timing and it falls on its face.

If you are getting a 255, you will be overrunning the stock FPR and should get a new one. A 190 is a good match for the stock FPR and is good to around 380ish or so.

A 255 will work fine in your car. Head not the words of these heathens who seem so set on telling everyone to buy a 190.
