Cigarette Ligther out - Help!

Hi,
I have a 1998 Honday Odyssey.

My cigarette lighter has stopped working. This has happened before and I fixed the problem by putting in a new fuse. Easy.

This time though, the fuse was fine. Mechanic said the plug where you insert is rusted out. Said it would cost $85 at the dealer, suggested Canadian Tire. So I went and bought a 12V plug. The plug didn't exactly fit on the outside, but I decided I could live with that if only it worked. It didn't.

Any ideas???
