Step Rail Installation

Hi,

I have a 2002 XE w/o step rails and just wondering how tough or easy the installation will be. I have noticed the frame of X there seems to be a few pre-drilled holes for the rails. (maybe the holes are not for the rails?) Anyway will the install require any drilling etc... or is the install pretty straight forward?

No, it's real easy, they just bolt right on. However, since mine came on the truck, I'm not sure if the kit comes with the hardware, but I assume it would.

Yup. Easy. There are nuts welded on the inside of the frame so no drilling, etc. Were the bolts already in the frame, or did they come with the step rails? If not you should clean the threads of any road gunk that might have gotten in there.

P.S. If you ever offroad in your Xterra, it's best to take the rails off. Put the bolts back in the holes to keep mud/dirt out until you get back home.

Thanks for the replies, hopefully it will be a painless install when i get them, and they did not orginally come with the X, but like i said, i did notice predrilled holes on both sides, so i will assume the holes are for the rails...?

Yup, the 2000 and 2001 models had them optional on the XE models, they came with the sport or utility package, I forget which.

Incidentally, I'm in Maryland too and I'm selling mine. Bubba, if you want them, let me know ASAP. They're going on Ebay today with a note that they're subject to prior sale.
