I am thinking of buying motor mount inserts. How hard are they to install?? Can anyone give me some directions on doing them? I will realy appreciate it.

Re: Motor mount inserts???

i assume you are talking about polyurethane inserts? it shouldn't be that hard, but a press would make installation much easier. as for removing the rubber in the stock mounts, i've heard of ppl lighting it on fire.

Re: Motor mount inserts???

Im going to try doing them without a press. So you heard that to get the old inserts out, people burned them out? I guess I will try that. Do you know anyone that has done inserts, that I can ask questions?? I was also looking at Maximal performance solid motor mounts. I have heard good things about them, but I just wanted to ask people what they think. I don't really care about the vibration, I just want to know are they worth $210.

Re: Motor mount inserts???

heck yes they are worth every penny. i just purchased some solid mounts and installed them last week. quite a bit of vibration, but they do the trick. my exhaust used to hit my car when i mashed the throttle (i suspected a bad motor mount to be the culprit). now the exhaust doesn't thump anymore. motor mounts did the trick.

You really do need a press to do the inserts. They dont just fall into place.

go drive a V8 and lets see you talk about solid motor mounts having vibration

the Z28 i used to drive had move vibration with stock mounts than my 3/S does with solids

Re: Motor mount inserts???

i've driven and ridden in many a V8. but the vibration in my 3S is still greater. everything in the cabin rattles. granted, i have the cat removed right now (let a friend borrow it for emissions testing), so that may contribute to the ill effect i'm experiencing. also, my idle has decided to chill at 1400rpm. so when i fix the idle and put the cat back in, i'll report back.

but i'm probably gonna put my good rubber stock mounts back in (only front mount was bad) and leave the one front solid mount in there. right now, its just not a comfortable daily driver. i can deal with a very tight suspension and bumpy roads, but this extra constant vibration puts it over the top. however, when i accelerate at WOT, it sounds like i have a blower that is whining like crazy. makes my car feel like a V8 on the inside. its pretty sick, but it just takes the comfort factor way down.

Re: Motor mount inserts???

Thank you for all the information, Im going with the solid mount. I don't care about the vibration, because its not my daily driver. And they are a lot cheaper that Poly mounts.

that's what made me decide to go with solids...the price. $210 (no core charge) compared to $329 + $300 core charge. the 3SX price is absolutely RIDICULOUS. 300 core charge? gimme a break. you know the poly inserts are dirt cheap, and they probably making 500% profit on these.

Re: Motor mount inserts???

There was a guy on 3si who made his own poly mounts for dirt cheap. I'll try and find hte link.

Edit: Here it is for you DYI'ers

Edit #2: After reading the entire thread (didn't last time) it appears these have longevity issues. So read the entire thread before trying it.

Re: Motor mount inserts???

I order the front and rear motor mounts, because I thought it would help me more than the side and trans mount. I'm mainly using my car for more drag than auto crossing. I have another question about the TC bracket they sell. Will it strengthen my TC housing and help keep it from breaking, or is it a waste of money??? I was looking at the Maximal and Nelson performance brackets. Then Nelson one looks like it will strengthen it better, but if the Maximal is good I will rather spend $80 than $250.

Re: Motor mount inserts???

any bracket is better than nothing, but if you're racing the car, brackets are just band-aids IMO. I know its way more expensive than a bracket, but if i was going to race my car, i would go for one of them shiney new billet TCs

Re: Motor mount inserts???

there were only a few billet TCs produced. then there was a group buy for a few more. however, another company has produced a stainless steel TC, which is as much of an improvement over the stock TC as the billet one is. 3SX carries the stainless steel TC.
