Door Latch Problem, Please Help?

Okay,
So my drivers side door will not latch. The top part of the latch is jammed upwards. I cannot get the latch to come down. Is there anyway I get the top part of the latch to come down, that wouldn't involve paying someone $150 to fix it?

Try using a large screwdriver. Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the center part of the latch, where the striker bolt would be if the door were closed. Then have someone attempt to "open the door" while you hold on to the screwdriver. With luck, the latch will release fine.
