Unhappy Spec V DARK oil

Anyone out there have issues with their Spec V oil? I have 3300 miles on my car and the oil is a very dark brown color. I have been using 93 octane gas in the car since I got it, I just filled it up with 87 octane to see how it runs on that. I have heard that the Spec V can have issues with leaking oil but I don;t understand why at 3300 miles the color of my oil should be so dark...

Anyone out there have this problem or know anything about it?

Thanks!

well dude, as a mechanic i can say that if you haven't changed your oil, the dark coloring is very normal. Oil tends to break down and what essentially happens is that it burns but not to the extent of burning up.(just enough to give it color. kind of like when you barbeque)
all in all, it is normal:smoka:

Even on a brand new car???

Well my car has 3400 miles on it, it isn't supposed to have its first oil change until 3750...

I shouldn't have had to change the oil by 3400 miles...

dude think about it. you are pretty close to your oil change time. did you expect it to be real pretty oil until 3750?? and i would definately NOT wait till 3750 just because the dealership says so. I have personally done studies on oil and it sucks after about 2500 miles.

Good Information

Okay,
Good to know. Problem is, I lease the car to get out of paying for things like oil changes. They are supposed to take care of all of that for me.

If you get a chance, please ceck out my other thread, maybe you can lend some advice to me regarding those issues.

when i talked to nissan, they told me i shouldn't switch to synthetic until after 40k kilometers or about 25k miles. they said this would void the warranty. don't know if this is true, but i am going to wait till then to change to full synthetic.
as far as i know, the synthetic should be changed just as often as regular oil right?

synthetic oil

I brought my car in to Nissan for the 3K mile check this morning.
They said that it is unecessary to use synthetic oil in the SpecV and that it is just a waste of money. They said that synthetic oil is meant for high powered engines (turbos etc...) They also said that the use of premium gas (91 octane and higher) was unessary and uneeded. The car will actually run better on 87 or 89 gas and I have actually noticed an increase in performance and a quieter egine since I switched from 93 octane to 89 octane. They also said that an oil change before 3750 is ridiculous, unless I am racing the car there is no reason I should need my first oil change until 3750.

Let's think about this, it's a 4 cylinder Nissan that retails under 20K, not a 670 thousand dollar Ferrari Enzo, it's not even a 60 thousand dollar Mercedes, there isn't really a need to put synthetic oil or premium gas in this car unless you are racing it... But then, if you really want to race cars, buy a 69 GTO.

its funny that the nissan dealership told you not to use premium gas. as far as i know, the instructions and the fuel door say that premium fuel is recommended. also, when sport compact car tested the car, nissan claimed that the numbers were so low due to the fact that sport compact car never used premium gas. i think your dealership might need a little more information on the gas bit. my friend who is a mechanic also says that of all the engines he has rebuilt, cars that burn premium fuel seem to have less carbon build up and are cleaner.
I agree with the synthetic oil bit. however, i tend to drive my baby super hard everyday, and i notice that the car gets super hot. i think the synthetic oil should help the engine more during hard starts like launching since this oil coats the engine parts better and resists heat more.

what ever your dealer told you is wrong because synthetic oil is good for any car, old or new because they have additives such as anti-wear, and if you drive hard or race your car, it's preferred to use synthetic.....91 octane or higer is recommended in our cars due to our compresstion ratio which is 9.5....
